Professional Home Inspection Service was started by Keith Oberg and Gregg Harwood in 1988 to serve the needs of home buyers and sellers in the Binghamton area. The inspection company grew out of Keith Oberg General Contracting which primarily focused on high end remodeling and additions. During this time Keith and Gregg saw the need for independent inspectors who could help home buyers evaluate the condition of homes prior to purchase. In 1992 they decided to close the contracting business and focus all their efforts on real estate inspection and testing. At the present time the staff consists of Bonnie Kinner, Office Administrator, George Schambach, Laboratory QA Officer and Inspector, Keith Oberg, Inspector, Laboratory Director, and President, and Fred Adams, radon mitigator.
Keith and George are certified members of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). ASHI is the leading professional organization of home inspectors in the United States and Canada. ASHI has met the rigorous requirements of the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) as a certifying body. ASHI offers the only third-party approved home inspector certification program. In order to become a certified member an inspector must complete at least 250 fee paid inspections, pass a rigorous entrance examination series, and have reports reviewed by the organization to see that they meet the Standards of Practice. A strict program of continuing education credits are required to maintain membership. ASHI defined what a home inspection is over 30 years ago with the publication of the Standards of Practice and issuance of the ASHI Code of Ethics.
Keith was a founder and past President of the New York State Association of Home Inspectors (NYSAHI) and continues to serve on its Board. He is a member and past President of the Central New York Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors (CNYASHI). Keith is the founder and past President of the Southern Tier Association of Home Inspectors (STAHI). Keith and George are active members in all of these organizations dedicated to the improvement of their profession. In addition, George holds certifications in lead, asbestos, and mold inspections, handling and testing.
Bonnie Kinner runs the office and maintains the scheduling. Our office is manned from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for quick response to your needs.
